About the Maplewood, Millburn and Summit, New Jersey Area Maplewood…a slice of Americana From the 4th of July with a pie-eating contest, foot races, a real circus, band concert and fireworks to the quaint Maplewood Village being transformed into Dickens Village during the Christmas holidays….yes, costumes and all, this is America at it’s best. This wonderful town is surrounded by a 2,400-acre reservation and is just 35 minutes by train to Midtown Manhattan by Midtown Direct or 25 minutes to Hoboken to hop on the ferry or Path to Downtown Manhattan. Maplewood has the highest number of commuters going to and from New York City than any other train stop. The cultural diversity, which has been written up in the New York Times is absolutely wonderful and attracts people from all backgrounds, professionally and otherwise, making it a truly viable, pulsating town. The Burgdorff Cultural Center is home to the Strollers, our local performers, who put on several shows a year. It, also, is the happening place for jazz concerts, children’s recitals, workshops and much more. Maplewood is known for it’s amazing parks. There are three large parks, which offer recreational fun for all ages. There are lit ball fields, children’s playgrounds, oodles of tennis courts, platform tennis and outdoor ice-skating with a charming “skate house” with a wood-burning fireplace. And the best is that there is a satellite park in every neighborhood with tennis courts, children’s playground and a small recreation house which in summer becomes a center for neighborhood kids to go to “day camp” a few hours a day and do arts and crafts with college kids as camp counselors. We still have potholders and lanyards from our five children and they’re all grown! Maplewood is located within one hour’s ride via the Garden State Parkway to the first stop of the New Jersey shore, called Sandy Hook and continuing southward to many, many beautiful beach towns including Cape May or the more exciting Atlantic City. If skiing is your schtik, you are one hour away to the Vernon Valley ski resort in Sussex County, a little over an hour into the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania or Hunter Mountain in New York. our husband and We raised our five children in Maplewood and they thrived on it’s environment and fabulous school system. Our eldest daughter is an attorney, next daughter is an R.N., third daughter a scientist, our son is a chef and our youngest daughter works for Paramount Studios. Make Maplewood your hometown!! The housing stock is of the older, charming vintage with prices ranging from $300,00 for a small, starter home to over $1,000,000 for a large, family home in the Jefferson area. South Orange...a real hometown South Orange Village is a little 2.5 square mile “gem” of a town with gas lamps on every street lighting the way. It is nestled in the South Mountain and offers the utmost in character and New York convenience……..just a 30 minute commute to NYC on Midtown Direct!!!
The architecture of the homes is as varied as it’s population. Beautifully landscaped, sweeping lawns adorn every house in the Montrose Area , which hosts magnificent Victorians of a by-gone area, authentic Tudors and classic Colonials on large lots. The North Ridgewood Area begins the ascent to the Newstead Area with magnificent views of New York. The quaint village is host to one of South Orange’s two train stations and has undergone a fabulous renaissance, which continues. Shortly, ground will be broken for a fabulous performing arts center, known as SOPAC (South Orange Performing Arts Center), which will offer live theater, cinemas and restaurants. Our local university, Seton Hall, has endowed the township with $1,000,000 in support of SOPAC. Take a stroll to Starbucks, the Blue Moon diner or any of the great restaurants in the village and you will feel as though you have really come home. The brick paved sidewalks, with benches for a brief respite or the many art shows , make small town living sooo comfortable, yet it is very cosmopolitan. The 40 acre park called Cameron Field has oodles of tennis courts, paddle courts, community pool, ball fields for the Little Leaguers (and men’s leagues) and the Baird Community Center, which is home to our local Community Actor’s Group, as well as cabarets throughout the year. One can’t forget to mention Flood’s Hill, which is adjacent to Cameron Field and is “THE” place for sledding and tobogganing in the winter, not to mention the duck pond, which becomes a dream for ice skaters of all ages. South Orange, like it’s sister town of Maplewood, is a true Americana town with a progressive attitude. Chatham Township is a residential community of fine homes and townhomes in an attractive, suburban setting. The Township is located approximately 30 miles from New York City, with convenient commuting provided by NJ Transit and Lakeland Bus Line.
At 9.1 square miles, Chatham Township has a population of approximately 9,300 people who share strong commitment to open space, while maintaining a neighborly, hometown feeling. Plentiful recreation and important Morris County parks are located in the Township. A 40-acre Outdoor Education Center offers numerous nature trails and programs. An 8,000-acre Wildlife Refuge is home to over 200 species of birds and animals. The school district of the Chathams, incorporating both the Township and the Borough, consistently ranks in the top 15 of New Jersey schools, a reflection of the community's emphasis on education. In addition to the quaint shopping provided by local merchants at Hickory Square Shopping Center, the nearby Mall at Short Hills offers upscale shops and department stores. Financing Your Home >Balloon Mortgages
In loan terminology a "balloon" is the unpaid loan balance that must be paid in full on a specified due date. Federal savings and loan associations are permitted to make balloon mortgages with as little as five percent down and monthly payments that are smaller than the amount needed to fully amortize the debt. On the due date, which may be only a few years after the loan was made, the balance must be paid off or the loan must be renegotiated. Balloon borrowers must be cautious and plan carefully to avoid overlooking balloon payment obligations. It is easy to be lulled into complacency by the easy monthly payment terms.
Today's complex economics have produced a wide variety of options for potential borrowers, who are often surprised by how much house they can afford to buy. Loan approval is ultimately in the lender's hands, but your real estate agent can help you to determine your real buying power.
